Fayette Communities

Fayette County only has one city in its territory, and that would be Lexington. But since the merging of the government of that city with the government of the county, the entire county of Fayette is currently considered by some as a county that is best identified with its city – in fact, some even go as far as considering Fayette as part of Lexington rather than the other way around. Still, it is very much unfair to think that Fayette County communities do not exist just because almost everything that people know about Fayette county is associated with the City of Lexington. There are, in fact, several communities outside of Lexington that are considered Fayette County communities.

Perhaps the most well-known Fayette County community would have to be the village of Athens (pronounced ey-thenz). Even though Athenz is a rural community of Fayette, it is nevertheless seen as one of the most important communities of Fayette because of the fact that it was recognized as a Historic District back in 1979 with much thanks to the presence of unique architecture (Greek Revival, Italianate and Late Victorian) in the area.

Other Fayette County communities outside Lexington are Spears, Clay’s Ferry, South Elkhorn, and Little Texas.
